Hands-Only CPR

During any heart emergency, time is of the essence and everyone has the tools they need to help save heart muscle right at the end of your arms–that's right, it's all in your hands.

If you see a teen or adult suddenly collapse, jump into action and check to make sure he or she is safe and then look for signs of respiratory response, such as breath sounds and chest movement. Tap the shoulder and ask, "Are you ok?" If you don't get a response, ask a bystander to call 9-1-1 for emergency assistance or do so yourself if no one is around. Once help is on the way, immediately begin chest compressions if the person remains unresponsive.

The American Heart Association and the American Red Cross both recommend using Hands-Only CPR to increase the likelihood of surviving a cardiac event outside of a medical facility. It's easy to learn and easy to remember.
