Lufkin, TX – Woodland Heights Medical Center will host its Super Safety Saturday (a FREE safety fair event) on Saturday, March 21 from 9 a.m. to Noon at the Woodland Heights parking lot (loop side of the hospital).
“Spring and summer are on the way, and promoting injury prevention while providing safety education for our community is important,” said Stephen Bennett, Emergency Services Director at Woodland Heights Medical Center. “We wanted to create an opportunity to reach kids and families through hands-on demonstrations and activities that make learning about safety both engaging and memorable. We hope families will take advantage of this free event that offers education along with fun.”
Super Safety Saturday is a free family event. Participants will meet first responders, learn about water and animal safety, search and rescue, and so much more. Texas Department of Transportation (TXDOT) will be on hand offering simulation demonstrations. There will be games, giveaways and lots of fun. Each child (toddler through 14 years old) can enter into a drawing to win a bicycle, which will come with a helmet thanks to a generous donation from the Deep East Texas Regional Advisory Council and the Texas Medical Association. This year, the hospital is also hosting a peanut butter drive benefiting the East Texas Food Bank. For every jar of peanut butter donated, children will receive an additional entry into the bike drawing.
“Thanks to generous donations from local physicians, area businesses and individuals and our Woodland Heights team members, we are hoping to have more than 100 bicycles to raffle off,” Bennett said. “Our team at Woodland Heights has a passion for caring for people, and seeing families learn how to prepare for emergencies is an important first step toward building a safer, healthier community.”
In addition to TXDOT, there are many community partners that will be at the event, including Lufkin Fire Department, Lufkin Police Department, Texas A&M Forest Service and Smokey the Bear, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the PHI helicopter and many others.
