Fourth Annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive Will Support East Texas Food Bank
Lufkin Texas – Woodland Heights Medical Center is working to fight hunger in the community by collecting peanut butter to donate to East Texas Food Bank and is inviting community members to participate. The fourth annual Jars of Love Peanut Butter Drive starts on March 2 and will continue through March 30. Woodland Heights collects peanut butter because it is one of the least donated items even though it is high in nutritional value and is shelf stable.
"Every year, Woodland Heights Medical Center makes it a priority to give back to our community, and Jars of Love is one of our favorite ways to show that we care,” said Jose Echavarria, CEO of Woodland Heights Medical Center. “In our community, an estimated one in six East Texans experience hunger and don’t have access to enough food, which can contribute to poor health. East Texas Food Bank is working to address hunger in our area and we are proud to support their efforts, one jar of peanut butter at a time.”
This year, Woodland Heights has a goal to collect 2,850 jars of peanut butter and other nut butters for East Texas Food Bank. In addition to the Administration office at Woodland Heights, Brookshire Brothers has graciously offered collection sites at five of its local grocery stores:
- Brookshire Brothers - Gaslight
- Brookshire Brothers - Chestnut
- Brookshire Brothers - Diboll
•
- Brookshire Brothers - Huntington
- Brookshire Brothers - Hudson
“We appreciate the partnership with Brookshire Brothers and look forward to working with our community to help our friends and neighbors in need,” added Echavarria.
