Super Doctors Among Us

Ever wondered what doctor your physician would choose to care for his/her family? I'm sure many of us have. After all, everyone wants the best medical care and curiosity begs the question, "I wonder who 'the best' to me chooses for his/her healthcare?"
Each year, the Austin-based magazine Texas Monthly prints a special section, "Texas Super Doctors®," honoring the physicians of Texas. Key Professional Media, Inc., a leading researcher and publisher of Super Doctors ®, performs the daunting task of putting together this extensive, specialty-based listing.
The list includes physicians from all over Texas, including several from Lufkin. I wish a heartfelt congratulations to Ravinder Bachireddy, MD (Cardiology), Rick Martin, DO (Family Practice), and Thomas Duncan, MD (Ophthalmology) on being named Texas Super Doctors ® for 2012.
The process involves several steps in order to identify physicians who have achieved a high degree of both recognition from their peers and professional achievement. Physicians are asked to consider the following question: "If you needed medical care in one of the following specialties, which doctor would you choose?" Of course, there are safeguards in place to prevent ballot manipulation and doctors may not nominate themselves.
The Key Professional Media, Inc. staff also contributes to the pool of candidates by searching databases for doctors who have attained certain credentials, honors or professional recognition. Candidates are evaluated on 10 indicators of peer recognition and professional achievement:
- Years of experience
- Hospital appointments
- Fellowships
- Professional activities
- Leadership positions
- Academic achievements/positions
- Board certifications
- Publications, lectures & presentations
- Honors and awards
- Other outstanding achievement
In addition to the Super Doctors® listing, there were also several Lufkin dentists, orthodontists and oral surgeons honored: Bill Greer, DDS; Richard Byler, DDS; Ken Handley, DDS; Andrew Jordan, DDS; Arthur Jordan, DDS; Taylor McKewen, DDS; John Studer, DDS,MA,PA; and Fred Griffin, DDS.
Although there were three Lufkin physicians named to the list, our region is blessed with many talented, caring, quality physicians. Our medical staff shows a deep commitment to the community and is the reason Lufkin has become a regional hub for healthcare. They care about their friends and neighbors and provide the best in care to their patients…how fortunate we are that they make the Pineywoods their home. Again, congratulations, Super Doctors.
