Chest Pain Observation
Unit at Woodland Heights Medical Center
Woodland
Heights Medical Center is proud to introduce our latest
treatment area, the Chest Pain Observation Unit. This area
is dedicated solely to treating patients who have symptoms
related to a possible heart attack.
The Chest Pain Observation Unit is comprised of seven beds
in our Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Staffed by highly skilled
and knowledgeable ICU nurses and staff, the Chest Pain
Observation Unit is located on the third floor of Woodland
Heights Medical Center. The Unit requires patients to stay
23 hours for testing and monitoring.
Chest Pain Signs and
Symptoms
Chest pain refers to
pressure, squeezing or general discomfort in the chest area,
which includes the heart, breast and neck areas. Although
chest pain is always a symptom of an underlying condition,
the condition may not be a heart-related illness. The
underlying condition may be serious (e.g., coronary artery
disease), but many times it is not (e.g., heartburn). To be
sure about proper treatment, anyone experiencing chest pain
is encouraged to see a physician.
Chest pain is a broad term used to describe a variety of
symptoms, including tightness, squeezing, crushing, choking,
radiating pain or numbness of the chest area.
Admission to the Chest Pain Observation Unit
If you are experiencing chest pains, you are strongly
encouraged to seek medical attention immediately. You can do
this by coming to the Emergency Department at Woodland
Heights Medical Center. If the Emergency Department
Physician determines that you are not having a heart attack,
but you have symptoms that could put you at risk, you will
be admitted to the Chest Pain Observation Unit.
