Women in Red / Healthy Woman Luncheon

Every April, Woodland Heights Medical Center hosts its Annual Women in Red Luncheon, reminding women to take pause and remember to take care of themselves…and their heart. The event is also the anniversary of the hospital’s Healthy Woman program, a free community resource designed to empower women with the knowledge and confidence to make informed healthcare and well-being decisions for themselves and their loved ones.

During the luncheon, the audience is both informed and entertained as a local cardiologist educates them on women and heart disease, including risks, prevention, and treatment. Worldwide, 8.6 million women die from heart disease each year; 267,000 women die each year from heart attacks, which is six times as likely to kill women as breast cancer. Following the physician, a motivational speaker enlightens the audience, leaving them refreshed with food for thought. Door prizes and raffle prizes are also awarded.

For the past 20 years, Woodland Heights has received numerous national awards and recognition for its excellence in cardiac care. The hospital’s Heart Center has performed over 2,200 open-heart surgeries and over 16,000 heart catheterizations since opening its doors in 1987. As we continue our ninth decade of service to East Texas, we will continue to strive to bring personal and quality care to the residents of Lufkin and the surrounding areas.

The luncheon, which is designed to heighten awareness on women’s health issues, specifically heart disease is held at Lufkin’s Pitser Garrison Civic Center. Click here for a video of the event!
