Getting Smart About Your Heart
Heart Fair 2008 was held Saturday, February 2, from 9 a.m. to noon at the Lufkin Mall. According to Jennifer Stevens, Woodland Heights’ Marketing Representative, there were hundreds of visitors taking advantage of the free lipid profile testing offered by Woodland Heights and health information available by the many vendors. “This Heart Fair is a great way to kick off American Heart Month and to get the community actively involved in improving its health. The free testing allowed participants to learn more about their cholesterol levels, an important part of heart health,” said Stevens.
February is American Heart Month and a good time to bring awareness for heart disease, as an estimated 80.7 million American adults have one or more types of cardiovascular disease.
The vendors for this year’s fair included physician offices, home health agencies, nutritional foods, healthcare institutions, and much more. Also on hand was a Registered Dietitian offering Body Mass Index calculations and information on heart healthy nutrition, along with Physical Therapists testing grip strength and information on Rehabilitation Services, Wound Healing and Sleep Disorders Laboratory.
